LATROBE STREET, BRUNSWICK

BRUNSWICK HOUSE, A CELEBRATION OF HISTORY IN A CONTEMPORARY SETTING

  • Architect Lisa Breeze Architecture
  • Photographer Cathay Schulser
  • Supertuft Carpet Escape Velour Aisha

Nestled on a quiet street in Brunswick, this heritage home was ripe for a substantial renovation. Entrusting the task to Lisa Breeze Architecture, the new owners envisioned a design that restored the original facade while introducing an expansive multi-level extension at the rear.

True to her distinctive style, Lisa blended character, colour, and innovative features to fashion a modern home rooted in history and heritage. The design focused on revitalising the original home while infusing the personalities of its owners into the new addition.

The carefully curated material palette pays homage to the original Edwardian aesthetic, blending natural timbers with lively hues in a contemporary nod to the home’s decorative heritage. Take, for instance, the shingled cladding on the upper level, a subtle homage to the facade’s traditional cladding. Stained timber accents introduce an earthy touch, while vibrant colours splashed across the living room carpet infuse the space with dynamic personality and charm.

“Vibrant colour across the carpet provided a contemporary acknowledgement of the original Edwardian’s decorative features.”

The sunken lounge, featuring our luxurious Escape Velour Aisha carpet, stands out as a focal point of the design. Enhanced by neutral soft furnishings, the space exudes a bold, captivating, and inviting ambience.
